Brief history
The E4 Class was one of the most successful and versatile tank locomotives inherited by the Southern Railway during the 1923 Grouping. Originally built by the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway around the turn of the 20th century, all 75 locomotives entered Southern ownership — and all but one went on to serve with British Railways.
The E4s were used across a variety of duties, including passenger and freight work, and became a familiar sight across the Southern network.

Upgraded models
The Branchline model reflects the rugged versatility of the prototypes, built with a die-cast metal chassis for reliable running and better tractive-effort, and detailed injection-moulded bodywork for accurate appearance.
